The South Beach Diet is a commercial weight loss nutrition system that changes the balance of food you eat; replacing “bad carbs and fats” with “good carbs and fats”. It was created by a South Miami cardiologist for his heart patients to lose weight without giving up many of the popular foods that people enjoy at home and in restaurants.
For the first two weeks you can eat three meals that include normal-size helpings of meat and seafood (like chicken, beef, fish, and shrimp), vegetables, eggs, cheese, and nuts, and salads with olive oil in the dressing. For the first 14 days you won’t have any bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, baked goods, fruit, candy, cake, cookies, ice cream, sugar, or alcohol.
Phase 2 you can eat tuna, chicken caesar salad, roasted portobello “pizza”, grilled fish and steak, roasted chicken vegetables, and Miami-style salads.
The Ongoing Diet emphasizes minerals, vitamins, healthy fats such as olive oil and omega-3 oils from fish, whole grains and selective carbohydrates. It allows for chocolate, wine, and more.
